Cities are like living organisms. They are constantly evolving as new communities thrive and die within the metropolis. The four cardinal point of the city – north, south, east and west are the main players of residential and commercial development depending on people’s minds.

There is no hard and fast rules on which area become developed and which area break down.
Short History of Bacolod City
The history of Bacolod starts with the settlement by the Magsungay River in 1567 AD. In 1575AD, this settlement was elevated into a small town.
The Muslim raiders kept attacking the locals in Magsungay. This prompted the authorities to transfer the settlement inlands and named it Bacolod, from the word buklod or hill.
By 1848, the town became very progressive that the seat of power was transferred from Himamaylan to Bacolod City.
Since the 1900s under the American era, the area of “Downtown” and “Shopping” became the primary commercial area of Bacolod City. In 1936, the now defunct Bacolod Domestic Airport was constructed in Bacolod’s Sum-ag area. This heightened development towards the southern side of Bacolod City. The first residential communities in Bacolod City are Capitolville, Sta Clara and Villa Valderama.
Residential development sprang up on the south of the city like grass. Meanwhile some development also thrived in the East through the Lopues’ East Commercial Development and North due to the Robinson’s Place Mandalagan.
East Residential District of Bacolod City
The East Side of Bacolod City is essentially the most elevated. One of the problems with many communities in the Philippines is flooding. This district has gorgeous views of the Mandalagan Mountains.
